Civil WarThroughout history, the United States Army has conducted a wide range of military operations here at home and on distant soil. Today, the American and Coalition forces are dealing with some of the same successes and failures Presidents Lincoln and McKinley dealt with during the latter part of the 19th century fighting guerrilla warfare during the American Civil and Philippine Insurrection Wars. Both wars share some of the same characteristics, but they also differ by many varied dimensions. Post 9-11, American and Coalition forces find themselves fighting the enemy and simultaneously conducting "Nation Building" and pacification operations as the U.S. Army did in earlier wars. It appears the lessons learned from earlier wars have been applied today to certain degrees levels; levels that may result the same successes and failures as in the American Civil and the Philippine Insurrection Wars.
